Research and Development
KLAREN is gradually extending its research facilities dedicated for the purpose of realizing a continuous improvement of the operation of its self-cleaning heat exchangers and for widening the scope of applications which can benefit from this unique cost saving heat exchange technology.
Improvements are directed to the optimization of the separator, the various designs and modes of operation of the external downcomer, improvements and simplifications of the 'non-clogging' distribution system in the inlet channel, experimental and theoretical modelling of the fouling removal process by the suspended particles in the liquid.
The scope of applications for using this heat exchanger which are subjected to substantial R&D efforts include: Extremely severe fouling liquids which can normally only be heated by steam injection, very viscous and fouling liquids with viscosities of 500 cP or even higher, slurries with a high concentration of solids, evaporating hard scaling liquids, preventing icing of chillers, or even any combination of the above. Evidently, all innovations are protected by patents.
There is a strong trend for 'Joint Developments' with major companies for the purpose to introduce the KLAREN self-cleaning heat exchange technology in their proprietary processes. At this moment KLAREN is already involved in three of such 'Joint Developments' and we expect that this number will increase rapidly.
